Welcome to Wrestling Gamers!

Posted by Gamer3:16 on 8/27/07

Do you remember the feeling of having a wrestling games website to visit, knowing that it would provide results? If any of you are familiar with the defunct WWFWrestlingGames.com (WWG), then you know exactly what I'm talking about. If you weren't familiar with WWG and its community though, that's fine, because the creators of that site have taken on a new challenge: WrestlingGamers.com!

My name is Chris Pokorny, a.k.a. Gamer3:16, and I was a part of the WWG community from 1999 until it closed a few years go and re-opened as GamingRing (GR). The original owner of WWG sold GR a few years ago, and although I remained part of the administrative staff, I felt that a lot more could be delivered to the wrestling games' audience. Not only was there a need for for a sophisticated database of all the wrestling games ever created, there was a need for people that would get results, and that's what WrestlingGamers (WG) is all about. After some unpleasant circumstances over the past several days, I have officially committed to leaving GR to focus on WG, but I couldn't do it without the help of some extremely dedicated individuals.

Matt Parker: I was thrilled to get rolling with WG with the best in the business, the very man who built the foundation of WWG: Matt Parker. Personally, Matt was the man who opened me up to the wrestling games community back in 1999, when he operated WWG at the old expage.com free-hosting server. I joined Matt's staff as a chat room operator of all things, and over the next several years, I watched as Matt turned a small site into the best damn wrestling game website on the Internet. With all of Matt's prior experience to wrestling games and the coverage he will be able to provide us with, I was overwhelmed by his enthusiasm to partner up with me.

TimmeH: I have worked with TimmeH for several years now on the administrative staff at WWG and GR, and we have always seen eye-to-eye. A website can be run by two people, sometimes only one person, but the WG staff was completed with the ultimate triangle of communication. After all, communication is key, right? We don't envision WG as being a site where you never hear from the site directors. After all, without an audience to cater to, how can you ever run a site? Anyway, back to TimmeH: he will also be helping out with the wrestling games coverage.

FAN: The second half of the dynamic duo known as the Parkers is also joining WG, in a role that she's very familiar with: running contests and making members happy. Seriously, we've just opened, and she already has announced a contest for the upcoming Smackdown vs. RAW game.

Special thanks also goes out to Ransting, who did a tremendous job with the graphical engineering involved with WG. Ransting will also make significant contributions to our community very soon with an e-fed and an EWR section.

With such a dedicated staff, there's no need to stop looking for more help! If you feel that you can help WG, please visit our jobs section now to see what we have available.

WG wasn't created purely in spite of any other wrestling games sites, and quite frankly there is no need to unveil a long list things that you will and will not see at WrestlingGamers. However, since I'm sure many of you would get a kick out of this, here are some things that may bring back some memories and provide some incentives for bookmarking WG this very second:

WG Website Remarks:

-Site Design: Is it me, or does this actually look like a wrestling site? *Makes check mark* I think we're already ahead for those of you keeping score. The layout was customized for easy navigation: on the top left side of the site, you'll see links to all of WG's key features. On the right side of the site, you'll find everything you need to know about the foundation of WG.

-Game Database: We do not have every wrestling game ever created in our game database, but that is a personal goal we have in the coming weeks. We have prepared many never before seen reviews already, courtesy of Matt and TimmeH. Our vision was not to create a bland list of games, but to make something visually appealing and understandable to navigate. Sure, it was a pain in the ass to internally code everything so that it would easily be automated for our submissions, but I believe the work paid off.

-CAW Database: When I played wrestling games, things could get old very early at times, especially if the roster was not the greatest. Creating wrestlers could make the game seem almost new at times, but for the typical fan, it can be frustrating having to take the time to find the perfect look, the perfect move set, and the perfect attributes for that jobber that wasn't included in the game. We understand these frustrations, and we're going to do the best that we can to build one of the best CAW databases on the Internet. If you want Kurt Angle in the next WWE game but don't want to sift through 100+ different faces, bodies, etc., we want you to know in your head that WG has you covered. (Note: the CAW Database is under development for the next few weeks.)

-Fresh Content: Most importantly, we will provide you with exclusive content on wrestling games - whether it be screens, interviews, or videos, we'll have you covered.

-For the Record: Just so you know, we will not be using movie reviews, interviews with Paul Bearer, and awkward radio shows as filler content on WrestlingGamers. We want to stay true to the title of our site.

WG Message Board Remarks

-Cursing: Yes, of course cursing is allowed on our message boards. While we don't encourage the use of it unnecessarily, no one should ever have to go through a conversation full of "****" if the context it was used in was appropriate. Of course, if you're going to be a complete dick about something, you'll be banned. Yes, "banned", you won't be put on a miserable users list or anything of that nature.

-Shoutbox: Currently, there is no shoutbox on WG. I have never minded a shoutbox, but I'm new to the implementation of it and the server issues associated with it (anyone that tells you there aren't any server complications involved is either ignorant or a liar). The server that WG is currently hosted on may or may not be able to handle it: quite frankly, I don't know yet. In the future, I will run a trial to see just how much strain is placed on the server, and then move on from there. Until then, why not post or reply to a topic. You'd be surprised how much activity you'll get from that without twenty million sub-forums.

-No Bots: We do not want the signing up of bots purely to inflate our memberlist count, contrary to some people's (Stan Morris) willingness to do that on other sites. We have taken measures to prevent bots from signing up, and if they do sign up, they will permanently be deleted from our database.

-Contests: There are contests at WG, just like I mentioned above. These contests involve post count requirements, but for good reasons. If you are dedicated to this community, we don't want some random person to sign up, not make a single post, and then win something. The regulations aren't strict, and are perfectly reasonable for the time given.

Conclusion

Now that I've bored you with this rant, please feel free to browse the site some more, and then join our message boards!
