WG Wrestling Recap: 4-28-08
Posted by RanSting on 4/28/08
Welcome all to a new part of the website, the "Wrestling Recap". It was suppose to be last night, but due weather and via no internet, there you go. Let us get it started with Backlash.
It honestly didn't have one thing to really suprised me on the wins and losses. Orton lost his title on Backlash simply because he was, in my eyes, "made" at Wrestlemania. He is a permenant Main Eventer now and losing the title to someone like Triple H isn't really going to hurt your status.
There are some things you don't do when your in the best position of your life and have a great job, that being getting really drunk and saying things that will nearly cost you your job. Insert Michael Hayes, a guy I actually have a lot respect for what he has done in and for the business, but there are just certain lines you don't cross. Not only did he do that, but now rumor has it, he has done it more than once. It only takes one guy going to the bosses to get the ball rolling and now it looks like things could get a lot worse for Hayes. He is already serving a 60 day suspension with no pay.
WWE really has some guys that will become big players in the next few years if used properly. Santino has become a HUGE favorite of me. Like I told a few of my wrestling friends when he debuted, I have no idea why they brought him in as a babyface when he was one the best heels OVW had before he was called up. Santino needs a title and with him tagging up for Carlito, I see a lot in that team if used properly. Cody Rhodes is another that become bigger than his own dad if used right, which with Dusty being with WWE I just don't see that being a problem for a proper push.
Dave Taylor was released today and as I stated in my post on the WG Forums, which you can sign up for here, didn't see it coming, but by far not a surprise. It has become common over the years that shortly after Wrestlemania, WWE starts to do some house cleaning. They have released 4 people by my count so far, 3 devolpmental and now one main roster guy. Expect more to come.
On the TNA side of things, they are finally gaining some strength with their house shows and traveling PPVS. For too long, TNA has been trying to just use television and PPV to promote, but now they are seeing that going straight to the people in person is best practice. They have some big names to pay these days, so keeping the green rolling in isn't just business as usual, but a much needed thing to keep these names there. Now with their new game coming out in September, they will have a new way to promote themselves.
Meeting with Midway in October was an eye opening experience in the way video games are promoted. I have a feeling TNA learned a few things from how Midway promotes and it seems to becoming good practice. It would not surprise me by end of this year or next to see TNA finding themselves filming or going live from different venues for television. It will be best for them to do it soon it my point of view to continue their arguement that they are the other "big company". I just wish two things would of been changed when they moved to Spike...a new name and getting rid of that six sided ring. The name itself and the ring's novelity value has worn off in my eyes, worn off way to long ago. Now your too big to change the name, but just not late to change the ring out.
ROH needs TV...plain and simple. That is all I have to say that about that.
That will do it for me for today, look tomorrow night for another Wrestling Recap that will include some "Raw" Thoughts.
Take Care
